1st International Workshop on Smart and Circular Cities

IWSCC 2021

Civil Engineering Urban Studies & Planning

1st International Workshop on Smart and Circular Cities (https://www.ieee-smartiot.org/workshop2_scc.jsp)
Smart Cities and the IoT, together with sustainability and circular economy, form a significant part of the current research landscape, as regards large-scale systems and applications. A number of challenges have surfaced during the last few years when designing and applying these systems in fields like energy, sustainability, smart transportation and digital twinning, especially when discussing their cross-section. In most cases, it is clear that a multi-disciplinary approach is required for designing and implementing systems for smart circular cities, and such aspects are at the core of this workshop.
The aim of this workshop is to collect works from academia and industry reporting original, previously unpublished research, addressing technologies, systems, applications and services in the Smart and Circular Cities domain. In addition, novel approaches combining advances in IoT, Edge and Cloud computing, circularity and sustainability, Industry 4.0 are also within the scope of this workshop.
Overall, the workshop will address the following topics:
• Applications of AI for smart cities
• Cross-section between smart cities, circularity and art
• Data management, open data and knowledge extraction in smart cities
• Digital Twins and their application in Smart Cities and Sustainability
• People-centric systems and crowdsensing solutions in smart cities
• DLT technologies for Smart Cities
• Smart Cities as a system of systems
• Smart city pilots/applications and related studies
• Studies on behavioral change aspects for sustainability
• Tools and techniques for urban co-creation
• 6G and alternative communication architectures and IoT applications
Submission
Papers reporting strong contributions backed by solid evaluation are strongly encouraged. The impact of the contributions should be demonstrated in the context of smart cities and the IoT, and should demonstrate substantial novelty and/or impact. Submitted papers must be unpublished and not considered elsewhere for publication. Submitted papers will undergo a review process handled by the Technical Program Committee.
A maximum of 6 pages per submission, including all figures, tables and references, is requested. Formatting should follow the IEEE Computer Society author guidelines.
Each accepted workshop paper requires a full SmartIoT registration (no registration is available for workshops only). Workshop papers will be included and indexed in the IEEE digital libraries (Xplore). Papers will be submitted through the Easychair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ieeesmartiot2021) system for the SmartIoT conference, by selecting the Workshops Track. The workshop is supported by the IEEE Smart and Circular Cities Special Technical Community (https://smartcircularcity.isi.gr/).
Papers that will stand out in the workshop will be considered for invitation to at least one special issue in the MDPI Buildings journal, titled “Industrial IoT Infrastructure for Smart Buildings and Cities” (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/buildings/special_issues/IoT_Smart_Buildings_Cities).
