Preliminary Call for Papers
The International Baltic Conference on Digital Business and Intelligent Systems is an international forum, which provides an environment to exchange research findings and ideas for researchers, practitioners and PhD students on the crucial matters on engineering reliable, secure and sustainable information systems with data and data analysis in the central role. The 15th edition of the Baltic DB&IS conference will feature original research and application papers on the theory, design, implementation and security of today's information systems that are based on advances in computer science and information technology. It will continue a series of successful biennial Baltic conferences previously held in Trakai (1994, 2018), Tallinn (1996, 2002, 2008, 2014, 2020), Riga (1998, 2004, 2010, 2016), and Vilnius (2000, 2006, 2012).
The conference publishes with Springer since 2016; extended versions of selected best papers will be considered for publishing in internationally recognized journals indexed by Clarivate Analytics Web of Science and Scopus.
Conference Scope
Baltic DB&IS 2022 welcomes original unpublished research papers and application experience papers not being under the review elsewhere. The topics of contribution include but are not limited to:

Submissions
All submissions will be evaluated (originality, validity, contribution, technical quality, and presentation) by at least three members of the international programme committee. The programme committee may decide to accept a submission as a short communication if it reports interesting results, ideas, or experiences but could not be selected as a full paper. Papers must be written in English and submitted via EasyChair system (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=balticdbis2022) in PDF format. Submissions must conform to Springer‚ LNCS format.
We invite original unpublished research papers and application experience papers within the following categories:
full research papers describing research accomplishments (up to 14 pages),
short communications (experience reports, project overviews, etc.) (6-8 pages),
doctoral student papers (for the Doctoral Consortium, 6-8 pages).
Venue
The International Baltic DB&IS 2022 conference will take place in Riga, the capital of Latvia, whose picturesque medieval Old Town is known around the world for its well-preserved completeness and authentic Hanseatic architecture. The city offers enchanting atmosphere, rich cultural scene, beautiful surroundings, cutting-edge restaurants, cafes, and clubs. It has good flight connections and is easy reachable also by other means of transportation.
We hope very much that DB&IS 2022 will be possible of attending in person. Nevertheless, we will be prepared also for virtual participation as in DB&IS 2020 in Tallinn.
History of Baltic DB&IS
Shortly after the three Baltic states – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – regained their independence from the USSR at the beginning of the 1990’s, two organisers of the Very Large Data Bases (VLDB) conference – Prof. Janis Bubenko jr. (Sweden, born in Latvia) and Prof. Arne Sølvberg (Norway) – decided to invest a small balance of the VLDB Fund to introduce computer science researchers in the Baltic States into Europe. In 1994, the first computer science conference, called “The Baltic Workshop on National Infrastructure Databases: Problems, Methods, Experiences”, was organized in Trakai, Lithuania, where colleagues from Europe and the United States participated with researchers from the Baltic States. Ever since the conference became an international biennial (International Baltic Conference on Databases and Information Systems), rotating between Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia. The conference is classified consistently in category B by Excellence for Research Australia (ERA), its articles are indexed on the Web of Science, SCOPUS, DBLP, etc.
The aim of Bubenko and Sølvberg to unite Baltic and European researchers has long been achieved, and after the 14th International Baltic Conference on Databases and Information Systems (Tallinn, 2020) the conference steering committee decided to extend the conference with more modern topics and to decipher the acronym Baltic DB&IS as Digital Business and Intelligent Systems. Although the conference has grown out of the Baltics scope, the conference name still carries it as a reference to its origins and long history.
