Architecture Computer Security & Cryptography Computing Systems Data Mining & Analysis Artificial Intelligence Information Theory Remote Sensing Software Systems

With the attention to Internet of Things (IoT) -based applications for Smart Cities to persistently increase, affecting the life of the citizens in many sectors, data generated by deployed sensors are combined with other technologies to achieve better results and performance. In that sense, crowdsourcing techniques are encouraged to draw and share information regarding events. Big Data live feeds are fueled in machine learning algorithms to extract predictions regarding possibly foul human behavior or malicious acts in order to increase the safety of the civilian. Blockchain technology is studied as a means to increase the trust on the system storing safely and securely the data that are produced by the IoT devices, and governing the communication between the Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms that need access to those data.

The scope of this Special Session is to present and discuss papers on Smart Cities services or applications that manage to increase the people’s safety and that, potentially, combine more than one cutting edge technologies to achieve better results and performance and provide for a smart and secure environment for the citizens or tourists of a modern city.
