About this book:
Smart cities aim at enabling modern functionalities (e.g., sustainable energy systems, smart power grids, and electrified transportation networks) and integrating emerging information and communication technologies (ICTs) to enhance optimal operation and efficiency of the future cities. Urban environment has experienced a significant growth in terms of population and physical infrastructures in recent decades. Optimal operation of smart cities plays a pivotal role in social welfare for all citizens, as well as meeting the needs of society. In this context, there are several critical infrastructures that operate in a collaborative manner to improve the performance of this interconnected network of networks, which ultimately translates into enhancing quality of life for the citizens. The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the key players for upgrading current urban areas to smart cities. Further, the concept of smart cities is developed to integrate smart technologies and solutions with the foremost goal of improving the quality of life.
As a pioneering book that presents the fundamental theoretical algorithms and solutions for real-world problems in cyberphysical smart cities, it will appeal to students and researchers in various areas of engineering including electrical, civil, telecommunication, information technology (IT), business, environment, building, industrial, and computer engineering, as well as computer science and social science. Since it also lays out models, algorithms and frameworks to intelligence in the future cyberphysical smart cities in an extreme diversity of applications, and smart cities will be intertwined with the future human life, people running businesses of all types will find material of use in the book. We already have confirmed 60% of the contributions, a list of potential topics includes but not limited to:
1. Fundamental Algorithms for Large Scale-Optimization
2. Data Science Algorithms for Large-Scale Complex Systems
3. Lagrangian-based Algorithms for Convex Programming
4. Decomposition Techniques for Efficient Optimization
5. Smart power and energy systems
6. Optimization Algorithms for Intelligent transportation networks
7. Intelligent decision making in cyberphysical critical infrastructures
8. Artificial intelligence for secure operation of cyberphysical smart cities infrastructures
9. Decision making for UAVs
