Spirituality As A Topic of Systematic Theology And Philosophy

„Spirituality“ is a buzzword with positive connotations. But what exactly is meant by this term? Can it be defined precisely? How does spirituality relate to religion or a worldview? Is spirituality a locus theologicus? Is it possible to justify some kinds of beliefs through spiritual experience? What role does spirituality play for philosophy and what role does philosophy play for spirituality? What is interreligious spirituality and what is its significance for Christian theology and reflection on faith? Do all human beings have a (form of) spirituality or should they have one? Is there also bad spirituality?

These questions concern various disciplines of systematic theology and philosophy: from semantics, epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of religion and ethics to fundamental theology and dogmatics, especially pneumatology, moral theology and theology of religion. Contributions from biblical studies and church history (patristics) are also welcome, provided they pursue a systematic question.

The editors request the submission of research papers in German or English that deal with philosophical or theological aspects of spirituality from a systematic perspective. Contributions with a maximum length of 8000 words can be submitted until 31.12.2022.

To do so, please create a user account on the website and follow the individual steps for submission. Assign your contribution to the category „Special Issue Spirituality“. When submitting, please also observe the formal author guidelines and anonymize the text for the review process.

All submitted texts will be reviewed by two experts in a double-blind procedure.
