OBJECTIVES
For its third edition, the CIBAHN symposium (Libraries and Archives in the Digital Humanities Era) will be held in Hammamet on 14, 15 and 16 October 2020.
Digital Humanities, a field of research and engineering that explicitly links computer science to the human and social sciences, is now part of a movement to promote the dissemination, sharing and exploitation of knowledge. From this, all areas related to art, literature, heritage, culture, history, information and document sciences, commerce, education and research, etc. are now concerned by this movement which offers a new mode of communication in tune with the new possibilities and new needs for exchange, but also new ways of teaching, researching and organizing knowledge.
Moreover, digital humanities, projects are necessarily cooperative between researchers and professionals of identical or different disciplines. In this edition, we place special attention to the collaboration with researchers in computer science.
While during the last 20 years, information professionals have succeeded in setting up methodologies and technologies for in-depth information analysis through expert systems, machine learning systems, neural network technologies, etc. that can be explained because the context was characterized by a small volume of data and therefore limited learning. During those years, we went through at least two phases, the first wave introduced the introduction of digital documents in companies bringing a significant gain in cost and productivity. The second wave made it possible to deploy portals, blogs, social networks, e-commerce, mobility, etc. in companies. (Charaudeau, and al., 2015).
Nowadays, we are witnessing a third wave of the digital revolution, which is characterized mainly by big volumes of data. We are confronted with heterogeneous massive contents, unstructured in their form and their language (summarized in a rule of three Vs: volume, variety and velocity). As such we requires new tools and techniques to manage, preserve, disseminate and make sense of these contents. The quantity will grow with the Internet of Things to have more objects than people connected to the Internet. This digital transformation from "not connected" to "all connected" is essential for everyone, and therefore requires inventing new professions (data scientist, data analyst, etc.) with new skills.
This third edition of the International Symposium on Libraries and Archives in the Digital Humanities Era (CIBAHN) is collocated within the Digital Tools & Uses Congress (DUTC 2020) and proposes to interrogate the methods, techniques, technologies and strategies for managing, processing, archiving and distributing these voluminous, fluid, unstructured and varied contents.
