The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) premier conference on Hispanic higher education is seeking workshop proposals that address the theme, "Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success: Meeting the Challenge of Prosperity and Equality" in any of its six tracks.
Track 1: Grants and Fundraising Opportunities:
Grant and fundraising opportunities available from government, private and individual sources. Presentations on outcomes of programs implemented at colleges and universities and made possible with grant and fundraising assistance.
Topics may include:
Title V, Farm Bill, HUD, NSF, USAID, and other federal grant opportunities for Hispanic-Serving Institutions
Private and corporate foundation grant opportunities
Grant applications 101: researching and writing a winning proposal
Research and statistical analysis tools for grant and fundraising solicitations
Cultivating and stewarding individual and corporate donors
Partnerships and learning opportunities for emerging HSIs
Track 2: Partnerships that Work:
Exemplary collaborative practices for student success.
Topics may include:
PreK-12 and postsecondary education: Hispanic-Serving School Districts/HACU-member institutions collaboration
Growing the Hispanic professorial pool: faculty and leadership for the future
Effective partnerships between Hispanic-Serving Institutions and emerging ones
Curriculum alignment for collegiate success
Collaborative grants and shared resources
Community college partnerships
Business/industry and education partnerships: making it work for both sides
Intra-institutional partnerships and collaboration
Track 3: Executive Leadership for Presidents, CEOs and Trustees:
Issues of special interest to university presidents/CEOs.
Topics include:
Leading Hispanic-Serving Institutions effectively & embracing the HSI identity
Demographic and workforce changes driving institutional renewal
Transparency and accountability: practices that work
Developing sustainable institutions and reducing costs
Engaging trustees as effective governance partners
Trustee's role in advancing HSI mission and advocacy
Emergency preparedness: ready for the unthinkable?
Effective engagement between President's Office and Institutional Advancement
Presidents/CEOs as corporate board of director candidates
Track 4: Championing Academic Success for Hispanic Students, Research and Practice:
Exemplary programs and strategies that embrace and foster the educational success of Hispanic students.
Topics may include:
Effective practices in the PreK-12 college pipeline
Effective STEM 2- to 4-year and beyond articulation programs
Growing our own: effective graduate student recruitment and graduation
What does it mean to serve Hispanic students?
Exemplary practices at Hispanic-Serving Institutions on teaching and learning
Current and ongoing research on Hispanic academic success and/or Hispanic-Serving Institutions
Track 5: Advocacy and Policy:
The latest developments in federal or state policy affecting higher education and advocacy work of HACU-members.
Topics may include:
Key legislation: federal or state resources for Hispanic-Serving Institutions, the DREAM Act/Immigration reform, policy proposals for the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA), institutional accountability proposals, the Farm Bill implementation, the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and STEM competitiveness
Hispanic-Serving School Districts in the education pipeline and in federal legislation
Innovative advocacy models: how to be effective advocates for your campus
HACU’s advocacy efforts for improved legislation and greater appropriations
Federal agency/Hispanic-Serving Institution partnerships - grants and research opportunities
State legislation and partnerships
Track 6: International Partnerships:
Successful working models and opportunities for international collaboration in higher education.
Topics may include:
The “100,000 Strong in the Americas” partnership: how is it working?
Transnational accreditation of degree programs and institutions
Efforts and issues in Hispanic-Serving Institutions and Hispanic international education
New opportunities and effective programs for international higher education
Effective governmental-HACU member partnerships
How to fund international partnerships
