Internet-of-Things (IoT) is poised for a disruptive growth in near future where a wide variety of resources will be connected to the Internet. An IoT system will be the biggest connected system the human race has ever built. The system has to be open to support any future devices that may wish to connect to the system, which will be huge in size, supporting trillions of devices, millions of human users, and transporting data of several magnitudes more than that of today’s Internet.
Importance of research on IoT systems has been recognized across industry and academia, since it is simply not a system integration issue that we need to handle. It is projected as the major economic driver for the next few decades to come. An IoT system will need to integrate all fields of engineering, and possibly various fields of basic sciences. Diversity, Scalability, Accessibility, Openness, Programmability, Performance, tolerance to failure, etc. are some of the associated broad areas of research in IoT engineering. Engineers around the world are stitching small IoT systems catered for restricted domains such as home, city transportation, agriculture, etc. These efforts have increased our understanding of the issues and have unearthed problems associated with this vision.
Our immediate aim is to host a strongly interactive gathering of like-minded researchers and some practitioners, who are exploring the above areas, and embedded systems in general, to present their work and discuss potential ways forward.
Our long term objective is to initiate and formulate a group of researchers working on the issues of connected embedded systems and IoT architecture; and practitioners from industry, to meet regularly and describe issues, new problem areas pertaining to IoT system, and also to discuss on standards and solutions. We hope to positively influence the design, development, evolution and transformation of connected embedded systems like an IoT systems, with novel methods and techniques.
Scope

The broader vision of IoT is connected embedded systems encompassing all types of domains. Domain or a use-case has profound effect on the architectural decisions. Applications which will be hosted on such a platform will have diverse requirements. The architecture has to support various data and computation requirements because many of these applications are time critical. There are already examples of extreme types of applications in IoT, applications which are periodic in nature with diverse periodicity (e.g., reminders for pills, bus/train movements, periodic health checkup), applications which are highly aperiodic (investment on a stock, evacuation for emergency) again with diverse aperiodic distributions. Moreover, data volume requirements for different applications are also diverse. It may be difficult, if not impossible, to design an architecture which is generic enough across domains.
The purpose of the workshop is to solidify this research area and community. The long term aim is to bring together academic researchers and industry practitioners in this field to discuss the current state of research, common problems, discover new opportunities for collaboration, exchange ideas, and envision new areas of research, applications, and approaches.
This year, we shall put the focus on some emerging technologies.

Edge computing architecture for IoT
5G enabled IoT architecture
Block-chain enabled IoT architecture
The idea behind special focus is that generally, a sound and mature architecture for such technologies is lacking. This workshop can enable discussion and provide a relevant platform among the research community and strive toward maturing research outcome. However, any broader topic on IoT or cyber-physical systems is welcome.
Submission Guideline

We solicit detailed papers explaining techniques, solutions, tools or experience reports. Page limit is at most 8 pages and at least 6 pages, including references and artworks. All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal, conference or workshop.

We follow a double-blind review policy. That means the submitted article should not include the author's identity and affiliation information. They should prepare the article while maintaining anonymity.
