About the Journal
Telangana Journal of Higher Education (TJHE) is an international, open-access, peer-reviewed biannual journal devoted to higher education. It is the official publication of the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) — a statutory body of the Government of Telangana, India — and appears in print and online. The journal brings together thoughtful research on teaching, learning, policy, and governance in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), with particular attention to the Indian context.
Theme for this Issue
Universities in the 21st Century — Renewal, Reforms, and Roadmaps
Across the world, universities uphold time-honoured ideals yet face intense economic pressures, political scrutiny, ranking regimes, market logics, algorithmic systems, and tight regulation that reach into teaching, research, and governance. Debates over autonomy, state oversight, and funding grow sharper, while artificial intelligence, online and hybrid classrooms, unequal digital access, and metric-driven research collide with urgent concerns such as the climate crisis, public health, inequality, and misinformation, and with searching questions about inclusion, representation, and dignity in admissions, language policy, student support, and curriculum. This issue of Telangana Journal of Higher Education (TJHE) invites historically grounded, theoretical, empirical, and practice-based submissions that treat twenty-first-century universities as sites of renewal, reform, and long-term planning, and draw on interdisciplinary approaches where needed.
Illustrative Sub-themes
The following are sample sub-themes. Please visit the journal website for a longer list of sub-themes. Contributors may develop one of these strands directly, weave together several, or propose a related inquiry within the broader focus on renewal, reforms, and roadmaps for universities in the twenty-first century.
