European Tangible Interaction Studio 2020  ()

ETIS 2020

Engineering & Computer Science (General) Human Computer Interaction Innovation

ETIS 2020 in the 4th European Tangible Interaction Studio.

Tangible interaction is a research field addressing areas at the border of the physical and the digital. The studio will cover several aspects of tangible interaction related to prototyping and digital fabrication, wearables, Internet of Things, 3D interfaces, mixed and augmented reality, and other related domains.

The aim of this meeting is to gather young European researchers in the field of tangible interaction, to get them in touch with internationally renowned researchers and to establish networks for their future. This summer school is a follow-up of the previous editions held in Bidart (2013), Fribourg (2016) and Luxembourg (2017) and will be a unique opportunity to train in the field of tangible interaction and to discuss your research with professors and other young researchers.

We encourage the participation of researchers with different backgrounds from both academic and applied/industrial research. The studio will include voices from enterprises and private research institutions working in the field of tangible interaction. We aim to provide participants with insights for applied research possibilities, in order to bring tangible interaction principles out of the lab, in the everyday use.

During ETIS 2020, participants will have the opportunity to present their research, receive feedback, and enjoy practical activities for designing and developing tangible user interfaces.

University students, Junior Scientists but also practitioners, engineers and designers are invited to propose a talk or a workshop about their research about tangible user interfaces (TUI), including mixed/augmented reality, organic user interfaces, or physical computing. Topics of interest of ETIS 2020 include the exploration of Tangible Interaction in various fields of application including, but not limiting to:
- Food
- Education
- Cultural Heritage
- Industry 4.0
- Health

We welcome submissions in the form of theoretical foundations and frameworks of TUI; design guidelines and methods; prototypes, tools and toolkits for TUI; design cases, and TUI applications in different domains.

Submitted papers will be reviewed by ETIS Scientific Commitee and selected by relevance with the proposed topics, quality of research, and potential to provoke discussions during the meeting.

Selected papers shall be published on CEUR, the free open-access publication service for scientific conferences and workshops.

ETIS 2020 is proud to announce the Best Paper Award sponsored by the MDPI Journal Future Internet with a 350 CHF honorarium and the publication of an extended version of the paper in a special issue that will be edited after the event.
The winner will be selected by the ETIS scientific committee based on the paper’s novelty and quality of the research.
The awarded winner will be announced during the ETIS closing session.
